Walker County, GA — In honor of Historic Preservation Month, members of the Walker County Historic Preservation Commission (HPC), with help from Valley Mechanical volunteers, have installed new historical interpretive signs at three notable sites across the county.
The signs highlight the history of the Durham Mining Community on Lookout Mountain, the Estelle Mining Community at the base of Pigeon Mountain, and Wrights Mineral Springs Resort on Mineral Springs Road.
To commemorate the project, the HPC will host a dedication ceremony for the Durham Mining Community sign on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. The event will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, located at 6083 Highway 157, Rising Fawn, GA 30725.
