LAFAYETTE, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested Kenneth Rankin, an officer with the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, on charges of Computer Theft and Violation of Oath of Office. Rankin is accused of sharing official law enforcement data with a criminal suspect involved in a drug investigation in Tennessee.

The investigation began in May 2025 when the Soddy Daisy Police Department in Tennessee contacted the GBI regarding an illegal drug operation in Hamilton County, Tennessee. During the probe, authorities uncovered information suggesting related criminal activity in Georgia.

The GBI’s West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office then launched a criminal investigation, which revealed that Rankin had provided unauthorized access to law enforcement data to a suspect connected to the Tennessee case.  Rankin was arrested in LaFayette, and booked into the Walker County Jail.
