Voters heading to the polls for the July 15 Democratic run-off election in Walker County will find only one polling location open due to low turnout in the initial primary.
The run-off, which is for the Democratic Special Primary for the Georgia Public Service Commission, will be held exclusively at the LaFayette Senior Center, located at 636 S. Main St., LaFayette, GA 30728. This consolidation is required under Georgia law (O.C.G.A. § 21-2-270(3)) when fewer than 1% of a county’s registered voters participate in a partisan primary.
Just 131 of the county’s 13,655 registered voters—less than 1%—cast ballots in the June Democratic primary, triggering the rule that limits voting to a single precinct, specifically the one where the county courthouse is located.
All eligible voters, including those who voted Democratic in the June primary and those who did not vote, may participate in the run-off.
In addition to election day voting, early voting will be offered July 7–11, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Walker County Courthouse.
For more information, voters are encouraged to contact the Walker County Elections Office.
