Walker County Government is currently accepting applications for several open positions, offering job seekers a range of opportunities in public service. From public works to fire rescue and administrative support, the county is looking to fill both full-time and part-time roles.
Current Openings Include:
General Laborer (Public Works): This entry-level role supports manual labor needs in the Public Works Department. The schedule is Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with occasional work outside normal hours during emergencies or inclement weather. (Opened 08/15/2025)
Firefighter (Fire Rescue): Walker County Fire Rescue is actively recruiting full-time and part-time firefighters to serve the community. (Opened 08/14/2025)
Equipment Operator (Landfill): This role involves operating heavy equipment for landfill operations, including waste placement, compaction, road maintenance, and environmental compliance. (Opened 08/15/2025)
Fleet Technician I: An entry-level position responsible for routine maintenance and minor repairs on county vehicles and equipment. (Opened 08/12/2025)
First Impressions Receptionist (Tax Commissioner’s Office): This front-desk position welcomes and assists visitors, answers calls, and directs individuals to appropriate departments. (Opened 07/28/2025)
Transit Driver – Full and Part-Time: Drivers operate non-CDL 10-passenger vans and assist with custodial tasks. Excellent customer service and knowledge of safety regulations are essential. (Positions regularly available)
In addition to current openings, Walker County is also accepting ongoing applications for:
Detention Officer (Sheriff’s Office): Applicants must be 18 or older with a high school diploma or GED. Starting pay is $20.28 per hour, with a raise after six months. Applications are available at walkerso.com or at the Sheriff’s Office in LaFayette.
Part-Time and Volunteer Firefighters: Walker County Fire Rescue continues to recruit for these vital roles. Volunteer firefighters are required to complete annual training.
