The Walker County Health Department will recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Tuesday, October 7, by offering free breast exams from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the health department, located at 603 E. Villanow Street in LaFayette.

Appointments may be made by calling 706-638-5577, though walk-ins will also be accepted. Light refreshments, door prizes, and goody bags will be provided for participants.

The CHI Memorial mobile mammography bus will also be on site, offering mammography screenings by appointment only. Due to limited availability, individuals are encouraged to call the health department as soon as possible to reserve a time for this important screening.

From 2020 through 2024, Walker County recorded 55 deaths due to breast cancer. As the most common cancer among women, early detection through regular screenings is vital and can save lives.
