The Walker County Board of Commissioners will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., with a packed agenda that includes zoning requests, budget resolutions, and updates to local ordinances.

Among the highlights, commissioners will hear a presentation from Terracon regarding the EPA Brownfield Grant, followed by a public hearing on several zoning and variance requests. These include rezoning requests from Bobbie J. Burke and Sean & Penny Hayes Broome, as well as variance requests from the Walker County Board of Education and James H. Blakemore.

Commissioners will also revisit previously tabled items under unfinished business, including a proposed ordinance requiring spay/neuter and pet licensing, and a variance request from Paul Leming for property on Old Mineral Springs Road.

In new business, the board will consider several resolutions and purchase orders, including:

  • A 2026 holiday calendar for county offices

  • Ratifying compensation for the county coroner

  • Declaring surplus property

  • Awarding a contract for construction of the Agriculture Center storage building

  • Approving over $63,000 for courthouse environmental testing

  • Funding for police lapel microphones using ARPA grant money

  • A nearly $290,000 culvert repair project at Naomi Elementary, to be partially reimbursed by the school board

Additionally, commissioners will vote on zoning-related items previously heard during the public hearing portion of the meeting, based on recommendations from the Planning Commission.

Public comment will be accepted during the meeting. Anyone wishing to address zoning items must submit written comments before the public hearing, except for applicants, who may speak for up to five minutes.

The meeting will take place at the new commission meeting location: 201 South Duke Street in LaFayette. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 6.
