Walker County residents will have the opportunity to dispose of unwanted tires free of charge during this year’s Retire Your Tires Amnesty Day, set for Saturday, November 8, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Walker County Landfill, 5120 North Marble Top Road in Chickamauga.
Car and light truck tires with wheel sizes of 20 inches or smaller, as well as ATV tires, will be accepted at no cost. Tires must be dismounted, dry, and free of mud or debris. Large truck, tractor, or heavy equipment tires—and any tires with rims—will not be accepted. The event is open to Walker County residents only, and proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or current utility bill, will be required. Participants are limited to 15 tires per vehicle and must unload their own tires.
A satellite drop-off location will also be available at the Rossville Public Works building, located on the east side of the ballpark off Ellis Road. The same hours and restrictions apply.
Since the program began in 2017, more than 30,000 tires have been collected and sent to approved recycling centers, where they are repurposed into industrial fuel, landscaping mulch, and playground materials.
The Retire Your Tires Amnesty Day event is supported through a grant from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division’s Local Government Scrap Tire Abatement Reimbursement (STAR) Program, funded by Georgia’s Solid Waste Trust Fund.
