The Trion community will come together this weekend to celebrate the life of Dr. Phil Williams, the Superintendent of Trion City Schools, who passed away recently.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 16, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Trion High School Gymnasium. A brief remembrance ceremony will begin at 4:40 p.m., though attendees are welcome to drop in at any time during the event to pay their respects. Light refreshments will be served, and information will be available for those wishing to contribute to the Dr. Phil Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Dr. Williams, a 1985 graduate of Trion High School, devoted his life to education and to the advancement of his hometown school system. After earning degrees from the University of West Georgia, Jacksonville State University, and Nova Southeastern University, he returned to Trion to serve as a teacher, later becoming principal for eight years before being named superintendent — a role he held for 16 years.
Under his leadership, Trion City Schools achieved academic, athletic, and artistic success, including National Blue Ribbon School honors and multiple state recognitions. He was instrumental in modernizing facilities, expanding opportunities for students, and building a culture of unity and excellence that continues to define the district.
Known for his integrity, compassion, and high expectations, Dr. Williams inspired countless students, educators, and community members.
