No charges will be filed against the parents of a 2-year-old boy who was shot on Christmas Day in Rock Spring, after investigators determined the incident was an accidental shooting.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Wednesday that it has completed its review of the case and concluded there was no criminal wrongdoing. As a result, authorities said the case is now closed.

The shooting happened shortly before 10 a.m. on Christmas Day at a home on Tarvin Road in Walker County. The child was rushed to a Chattanooga hospital for emergency treatment, where he remained as of Wednesday.

Authorities previously said three people were inside the home at the time of the shooting.

Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson said the child’s father had left a gun on a nightstand after returning home late on Christmas Eve. Investigators determined the shooting was accidental and that no criminal charges would be pursued.
