The City of Chickamauga will hold a specially called meeting of the mayor and council on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 4 p.m., for a public hearing that could result in the removal of Mayor James C. Deck III from office.
The meeting will take place at City Hall in Chickamauga, and will be limited solely to matters outlined in the official agenda under Section 2.18 of the City of Chickamauga Charter, which governs removal proceedings for public officers.
According to the agenda, the hearing will begin with confirmation by the city attorney that written notice specifying the grounds for removal was properly served on Mayor Deck in compliance with the city charter. The proceedings will include a presentation of information by the city attorney, followed by an opportunity for the public officer involved — Mayor Deck — or his legal counsel to respond to the allegations outlined in the written notice.
The agenda allows up to 45 minutes each for the city attorney’s presentation and the mayor’s response, followed by final statements from both parties. After the close of the public hearing, the city council will deliberate and consider action authorized under Section 2.18 of the charter, which includes the potential ouster of Mayor Deck from office.
Mayor Pro Tem Evitte Parrish is scheduled to preside over the meeting. Members of the Chickamauga City Council include Lee Miller, Rhonda Jacks, David Jones and Matthew Nave, with Micheal Haney serving as city manager.
City officials emphasized that the agenda is restricted to the removal proceedings only and that no other city business will be conducted during the meeting.
