Chattooga County Residents Urged to Pay Delinquent Property Taxes

SHARE NOW

Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton is reminding property owners that nearly 1,900 parcels remain unpaid for 2025 property taxes, which were due December 10, 2025.

Hampton said delinquent tax notices will be mailed out this week and urged taxpayers to submit payments as soon as possible to avoid additional penalties. Property owners have until March 27, 2026, to pay their taxes before larger penalties are applied.

While payment plans are available, Hampton noted that interest and penalties will still accrue. However, taxpayers who remain current on their payment plans can avoid tax sale fees and additional delinquent notices.

Residents are encouraged to check their tax status online to ensure no payments were missed by visiting the Chattooga County Tax Commissioner’s website at chattoogacountytax dot com.

Hampton also reminded vehicle owners to cancel their license tags if they remove insurance coverage or stop driving a vehicle. Tags must be canceled in writing, in person, or online to avoid insurance fines.
