Qualifying is now underway for several local offices in Walker County, according to the Walker County Elections Office.

The first day of qualifying was held Monday, with candidates filing at two separate locations based on party affiliation. Democratic candidates are qualifying at the Walker County Elections Office, located at 311 South Main Street in LaFayette. Republican candidates are qualifying at the Walker County Republican Party Headquarters at 8566 Highway 27 in Rock Spring.

Qualifying hours at both locations run Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. until noon.

Local positions up for election include Walker County Commission seats in District 1 and District 2, as well as Walker County Board of Education Posts 2 and 3.

In addition, the City of Rossville is holding qualifying for a City Council seat to fill the unexpired term of Jarret Lassetter. Qualifying for that seat is taking place Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Election officials encourage anyone planning to run for office to complete the qualifying process this week.
