Prescribed Burns Planned in Walker County Today
The Georgia Forestry Commission will be conducting several prescribed burns in Walker County today, which may produce visible smoke in parts of the area.
According to officials, burns are scheduled at three locations across the county:
-
Approximately 1,000 acres near 332 Blue Hole Road
-
About 1,004 acres near Forest Service Road 231
-
Around 20 acres near 655 Walnut Grove Road
Forestry officials say prescribed burns are a routine land management tool used to reduce excess vegetation, improve forest health, and lower the risk of uncontrolled wildfires.
Residents and motorists in the area may notice smoke throughout the day, especially near the burn locations.
Officials ask the public to use caution if driving near these areas and be aware that smoke conditions may vary depending on wind and weather conditions.
