Georgia’s 14th Congressional and State Senate District 53 Races Headed to Runoff; Kemp and Trump Weigh In

Two key races impacting northwest Georgia are headed to a runoff election scheduled for Tuesday, April 7th following Tuesday’s special election.

The 14th Congressional District race and the Georgia State Senate District 53 race will both require runoff elections after no candidate received the required majority of votes.

14th Congressional District

In the race to fill Georgia’s 14th Congressional District seat, Clay Fuller finished as the top Republican  in Tuesday’s election and will now face Democrat Shawn Harris in the April 7th runoff election.

Following the results, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp voiced his support for Fuller.

Kemp said:

“Congratulations to Clay Fuller! When I appointed Clay as District Attorney, I was confident that he would be a fearless advocate for the rule of law in our state. As we head into the runoff election, Republicans must be united and send this proven, conservative fighter to Washington.”

President Donald Trump also weighed in on the race, congratulating Fuller for receiving the highest vote percentage in the crowded Republican field and encouraging voters to support him in the runoff election. President Donald Trump endorsed Clay Fuller in Tuesdays election.

State Senate District 53

Meanwhile, the race for Georgia State Senate District 53 will also move to a runoff election.

Lanny Thomas finished first in Tuesday’s vote and will face Jack Zibluk in the runoff.

Governor Kemp also commented on the State Senate race, congratulating Thomas and urging voters to support him in the upcoming election.

“Congratulations to Lanny Thomas! Let’s finish the job on April 7th.”

Runoff Election

The runoff election for both races will be held Tuesday, April 7th.

Voters across northwest Georgia will once again head to the polls to determine who will represent them in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District and State Senate District 53.

Additional election details, including early voting and polling information, are expected to be announced by local election officials.
