Update Released on Lanny Thomas’ Health and Campaign

NORTHWEST GEORGIA — An update has been released regarding the health and campaign status of Georgia State Senate District 53 candidate Lanny Thomas following a recent medical emergency.

According to a statement from his family, Thomas did not suffer a heart attack as initially feared. Instead, he underwent emergency surgery to repair damage to his heart. The procedure lasted several hours and was reported to be successful.

Family members say Thomas is recovering well and is expected to continue improving as he spends time with loved ones. They also noted that the medical situation was not the result of any underlying health condition.

Despite the recent health scare, Thomas remains committed to his campaign. His family says he plans to return to the campaign trail as his recovery allows and continue seeking election in the upcoming April 7 runoff.

The statement also acknowledged the decision by fellow candidate Jack Zibluk to pause campaign activities, calling it a show of respect during Thomas’ recovery. Following discussions between both campaigns, Zibluk has been encouraged to resume campaign efforts moving forward.

Supporters say they remain confident Thomas will be able to fully serve if elected, based on guidance from his medical team.

Additional updates are expected to be released as his recovery continues.
