SHARE NOW

Walker County is currently experiencing drought conditions, according to data from Drought.gov.

The National Integrated Drought Information System reports that February ranked as the 31st driest February in the past 132 years for the region. Rainfall totals in LaFayette were approximately two inches below normal for the month.

Overall, the county is running 3.41 inches below normal rainfall through the first two months of the year, contributing to the developing drought conditions.

Officials say continued dry weather could worsen conditions if rainfall totals do not improve in the coming weeks, increasing concerns for agriculture, water supply, and wildfire risk across the area.
