A recreational trail at Walker Rocks Park is getting a major upgrade as Walker County works to provide a more durable, year-round surface for visitors.
Crews are paving the trail at Walker Rocks Park, located on the Walker County Civic Center campus in Rock Spring, this week.
Walker County received funding through a Recreational Trails Program grant to replace the existing gravel trail with a permanent paved surface.
County officials say the improvement will help eliminate washouts that can damage the gravel trail and make it more difficult to use following periods of heavy rain.
The new surface is also expected to improve year-round access to the trail, giving walkers and other users a more dependable place for outdoor recreation throughout the seasons.
Work on the paving project is underway, bringing the Walker Rocks Park trail another step closer to reopening with its upgraded surface.
