The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded contracts for projects in Walker and Chattooga counties as part of a larger $62.8 million investment in transportation improvements across Georgia.
The largest local project is a $7.4 million slope repair on U.S. 27/State Route 1 at Taylors Ridge in Chattooga County. The project will address slope issues along the highway and is the largest single construction project included in the September contract awards.
Walker County is included in a $1.9 million bridge rehabilitation project involving bridges on State Route 157 over Rock Creek and State Route 286 over the Conasauga River in Walker and Whitfield counties.
Overall, GDOT awarded contracts for 25 projects totaling approximately $62.8 million. The contracts were awarded to the lowest qualified bidders on October 2.
Resurfacing projects account for the largest share of the investment, with 14 projects totaling approximately $39.7 million. Five construction projects, including the Taylors Ridge work, total about $17.3 million.
Two bridge rehabilitation projects account for approximately $3 million, while four safety projects make up the remaining $2.8 million.
