A former Walker County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been arrested following an investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation into allegations that he illegally accessed criminal history records and distributed law enforcement materials connected to active investigations.
The GBI identified the former deputy as 33-year-old Amadou Diaw of LaFayette, Georgia.
According to investigators, Diaw is charged with unauthorized disclosure of criminal history record information, computer theft, computer trespass, violation of oath of office, and misdemeanor obstruction.
During the investigation, GBI agents determined that Diaw illegally accessed and obtained criminal history information through the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC), a system used by law enforcement agencies to access criminal justice records.
Investigators also allege that Diaw distributed body camera footage and photographs associated with ongoing criminal investigations.
Diaw was arrested Thursday, October 22, and booked into the Walker County Jail.
Authorities have not released additional details about the investigations involved or identified who may have received the information allegedly distributed by Diaw.
The charges against Diaw are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
