Georgia is beginning to distribute funds for its 2026 Homeowner Tax Relief Grant program, providing property tax savings to eligible homeowners.  Governor Brian Kemp says the one-time program provides an 18-thousand-dollar reduction in the assessed value of qualifying homesteads for the 2026 tax year.  Homeowners with an approved homestead exemption do not need to apply separately. The savings will be reflected directly on their property tax bills, not issued as a separate payment.  For questions about eligibility, homeowners should contact their local tax commissioner’s office.
‘      The Cherokee Regional Library System is bringing back its annual Food for Fines program, running through November 25th.  Library patrons can donate unopened, shelf-stable food items in exchange for one dollar off overdue fines per item, up to 20 dollars per account.  Donations will benefit local organizations, including The Care Mission in LaFayette.  The program covers overdue fines only, not lost or damaged item fees. Patrons without fines are also encouraged to donate.
