A correction to a story from yesterday morning, Georgia voters have overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment allowing the state to establish a dedicated fund for upgrading emergency 911 services.  Amendment Three received approximately 78-percent support in Tuesday’s election.  The measure allows state lawmakers to dedicate existing revenues to improving emergency communications, without automatically creating a new tax or increasing 911 fees.  The upgrades could eventually allow residents to send text messages, photographs and videos directly to emergency dispatchers.  For Northwest Georgia, the technology could provide dispatchers with additional information during traffic crashes, fires and severe weather emergencies.  However, upgrades will depend on future state legislation, funding and local implementation.  The amendment was one of three constitutional amendments approved by Georgia voters.
