Walker County Government is an at-will employer. The following positions are currently available:


General Laborer (Public Works)(Opened 08/15/2025)
The General Laborer is an entry level position that provides manual labor support to team members of the Public Works Department.  The General Laborer’s work schedule is 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, but is required to report for inclement weather and other emergencies on occasion that could be outside of the normal work schedule.


Firefighter (Fire Rescue)(Opened 8/14/25)

Equipment Operator (County Landfill)(Opened 08/15/2025)
his position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment used in daily landfill operations, including the placement, compaction, and covering of waste materials, maintenance of landfill roads, and compliance with environmental regulations. The candidate will have experience operating heavy equipment, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to public service and environmental stewardship


Fleet Technician I (Opened 08/12/2025)
The Fleet Technician I is responsible for performing routine maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on the county’s fleet of vehicles and equipment. This entry-level position supports the safe and efficient operation of county vehicles, ensuring they meet operational and safety standards. Work is performed under close supervision with increasing independence as skills and knowledge are gained.


First Impressions Receptionist (Tax Commissioner Office) (Opened 7/28/2025)
The First Impressions Receptionist welcomes visitors by greeting them in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries. Directs visitors by maintaining employee and department directories for quick reference; gives guidance to visitors on how to find the person or services they are looking for from local or state government.


TRANSIT DRIVER – Full and Part-time available (regularly hiring)
This position operates a non-CDL 10 passenger transit van on routes for the Transit department, providing excellent customer service to passengers. A thorough knowledge and compliance with all federal, state, city and county safety regulations and policies is mandatory. This position will also perform a number of skilled and unskilled tasks in the custodial care of the buses.

WALKER COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE: DETENTION OFFICER
The Walker County Sheriff’s Office regularly accepts applications for the Detention Officer position. Applications may be obtained at walkerso.com or in person at the Sheriff’s Office main lobby located at 105 South Duke St., Lafayette, Ga. 30728. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age with high school diploma or GED. Must pass drug test and background check. Starting salary is $20.28 with increase after six months.
