Sat, Oct 31 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm

Halloween festivities are returning to downtown LaFayette as the annual Scare on the Square celebration brings an evening of candy, costumes, and family-friendly fun to the community on Saturday, October 31.

The popular Halloween tradition will take place from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m., with local businesses lining the downtown streets to hand out candy to children dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes.

A costume contest will kick off the festivities at 5 p.m. at the Downtown Commons, with children and adults invited to participate.

Scare on the Square has been a LaFayette tradition for more than 30 years. The event was originally started by local businessman Joe Stock, and although Stock has since passed away, the community continues to carry on the tradition he established.

The celebration provides families with a safe alternative to traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating, allowing children to collect Halloween treats while enjoying the festive atmosphere of downtown LaFayette.

The event is sponsored by the Bank of LaFayette and the City of LaFayette Main Street/Downtown Development Authority.

Downtown LaFayette’s square will be closed to vehicle traffic during the event to provide a safe environment for participants.

Families are encouraged to dress in their favorite Halloween costumes, bring their candy bags, and head downtown for an evening of Halloween fun.

Scare on the Square will take place Saturday, October 31, from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m., with the costume contest beginning at 5 p.m. at the Downtown Commons.
