Parents and guardians! Your voice is needed to make a difference. Walker County Schools are asking for your participation in the Parent Satisfaction Survey. This survey helps the district and the Georgia Department of Education gather feedback about how well schools are engaging with parents, particularly those with children receiving special education services. The survey is a key component of the Special Education State Performance Plan, specifically measuring Federal Indicator 8. This indicator tracks the percentage of parents with students in special education who feel that schools are actively working with them to improve outcomes for children with disabilities. The data collected will be used in the Annual Performance Report and will help shape the profile for each school system. Every district is required to gather this information to better understand family needs and perceptions. The survey closes May 31st. So, take a few minutes to make your voice heard and help make a lasting impact for your child and others in the community. You can find a link to the survey on the Walker County Schools Facebook page.

If you’ve been in downtown LaFayette the last couple of weeks you may have seen some work happening on some of the buildings. This part of an ongoing effort to revitalize LaFayette’s downtown area. The community is invited to take part in the downtown re-do . The Downtown Development Authority has a Facade Grant Program. Businesses within the downtown area can receive up to $2,000 for exterior beautification projects. The eligible projects can include new signage, fresh paint, updated windows or other beautifications. Grants are available to both building owners and tenants, and the good news is, the funds can be stacked! For example, the building owner can apply for a new set of windows, while a tenant can apply for new signage—both projects benefiting the same property. Check out the City of LaFayette’s Facebook page to apply for the grant or to see if your business falls within the downtown footprint. The deadline for application is coming up quickly.
