Burn restrictions will take effect next month in 54 counties across north Georgia. Beginning May 1st, the Environmental Protection Division will ban the burning of yard and land-clearing debris to help prevent smoke from affecting ozone levels in urban areas. The restriction includes Walker, Catoosa, and Chattooga counties, among others. Officials say the ban will remain in place until September 30th.
A Tunnel Hill man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after a March conviction on drug charges. Jason Ernest Jones was found guilty of trafficking and possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Authorities seized over 300 grams of meth, packing materials, and digital scales from his truck. Investigators also uncovered incriminating text messages on his phone. Jones has three prior felony convictions.
Senate Bill 268 was signed into law yesterday. The new law mandates that schools quickly transfer records when a student moves and increases penalties for students making threats of harm. It also requires students in 6th grade and above to undergo suicide awareness and violence prevention training. The law will take effect on July 1st, 2026.
LaFayette High School has announced its Inaugural Rambler Baseball Alumni Game, set for Saturday, May 17th, at Chris Jones Field. The event will bring former Rambler players together for an afternoon of baseball, memories, and community spirit.
