Former Walker County Commission Chair Shannon Whitfield is out of work. Whitfield had taken a job in Whitfield County as the Deputy Administrator. After less than three months on the job, his position has been eliminated. According to a story in the Dalton Citizen newspaper there was a general consensus by the county commission about the move to eliminate the position. A formal vote was never taken. County Administrator Robert Sivick exercised his right to eliminate the position. Whitfield was the sole commissioner in Walker County from 2017 to 2020. He was then elected as Chairman and served from 2021 until 2024. Whitfield was defeated by current Walker County Chair Angie Teems in last year’s Republican primary.
