CHI Memorial announced a $1.3 million grant to strengthen emergency services in north Georgia. The state provided $1 million to fund COVID-19 testing and vaccines, helping purchase ventilators and defibrillators for ambulances. Two new ambulances will also arrive later this year to improve service in Dade and Walker Counties. An additional $323,000 grant will fund EMS training focused on mental health and substance abuse emergencies. The program includes advanced certifications and new equipment like automated CPR devices and naloxone kits.
Early voting is now underway in Walker County for the statewide Public Service Commission races in Districts 2 and 3. You can vote Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Voting takes place at the Walker County Courthouse on South Duke Street in LaFayette. Early voting will continue through Saturday, June 13th.
The Walker County Health Department will offer free screenings for kids ages 3 to 18 on Thursday. Services include hearing, vision, dental, and nutrition check-ups, plus 3300 Forms for school enrollment. Screenings will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. at 603 East Villanow Street in LaFayette.
National Fishing and Boating Week runs from June 1st to the 8th in Georgia, featuring two Free Fishing Days on May 31st and June 7th.
