Authorities in Chattooga County continue to investigate a shooting that happened last night on Highway 337.  One victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition.  More details are expected today.
          The City of LaFayette has announced a new name for its long-planned greenway park project as construction continues into the new year.  City officials say the park will now be known as Traverse Park, replacing the working title “Greenway Park.” The name reflects the park’s goal of connecting different parts of the city and encouraging movement through the heart of LaFayette.  Traverse Park will link the Downtown Square with the Mars Theater District and serve as the anchor for the city’s greenway trail system. The project is funded primarily through a two-point-two million dollar federal grant, with local matching funds provided through SPLOST.  The park is expected to be completed by June of 2026.
          Students in Walker County Schools return to the classroom tomorrow as classes resume following the break.  Today is an in-service day for teachers, with no students in attendance. Parents are also reminded that schools will be closed again on January 19th in observance of Martin Luther King Junior Day.  Looking ahead, Winter Break is scheduled for February 13th and 16th, and Spring Break will run from March 30th through April 3rd.
          The LaFayette–Walker County Public Library is now accepting applications for a full-time position.  The application window remains open for a Youth Education Coordinator. The position focuses on planning and leading educational programs and activities for children and teens.  Interested candidates can apply online at C-H-R-L dot org.
           Georgia Northwestern Technical College is now hiring for multiple positions across its Northwest Georgia campuses.  Openings range from part-time support roles to full-time professional and instructional positions, including custodians, enrollment specialists, tutors, student success staff, and an EMS instructor.
