A former Walker County Schools assistant principal has been sentenced to 60 years in connection with a child pornography investigation. Ronnie Massey will serve the first 25 years behind bars, with the remaining 35 years served outside prison under the terms of his sentence. Massey was arrested in 2025 following a GBI investigation. He was charged with multiple counts of computer pornography and child exploitation-related offenses. Massey worked for Walker County Schools when the investigation began and resigned from his position in June of 2025.
Paving is underway this week on the walking trail at Walker Rocks Park, on the Walker County Civic Center campus in Rock Spring. The county says it won’t be long before the trail reopens. The project is funded through a Recreational Trails Program grant that will convert the former gravel trail to a paved surface. Crews have also installed additional drainage to help prevent washouts. The improvements are designed to make the trail accessible year-round.
The Walker County Animal Shelter is offering zero-dollar and 25-dollar adoption fees beginning today as part of a national adoption event sponsored by the BISSELL Pet Foundation. Shelter officials say overcrowding continues to be an issue, making this a good time to find a new pet. All adopted animals will be spayed or neutered, started on age-appropriate vaccines and wormers, and microchipped. The shelter is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with no appointment required.
Georgia’s labor market hit new records in August. The Georgia Department of Labor says the state’s labor force grew by nearly nine-thousand-five-hundred people to an all-time high of more than five-point-four-million. Employment also reached a record, with more than five-point-three-million Georgians working. The unemployment rate fell to three-point-two percent — the lowest level since February 2024. Georgia added eight-thousand jobs during August, led by administrative services, state government and retail.

LaFayette’s defense is allowing just 14-point-seven points per game — among the best in three-A football.
