The Walker County Board of Education plans to adopt the full rollback millage rate of 14.418 mills for the upcoming fiscal year, helping avoid a property tax increase despite rising home values. Under Georgia law, not adopting the rollback rate is legally considered a tax hike. The move reflects the Board’s ongoing focus on fiscal responsibility. A free dental clinic is coming to Peavine Baptist Church in Rock Spring for adults 18 and older who do not have dental insurance. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is now accepting applications for its second year of Outdoors Beyond Barriers adaptive hunting events. Eight hunts—including seven for deer and one for dove—are scheduled across public lands. The program helps hunters with mobility impairments access the outdoors through specialized opportunities and amenities. Apply by September 10 at GoOutdoorsGeorgia.com under “Events and Learning Opportunities.” Hunters may also qualify for a free, 7-day courtesy license.
