Walker County authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who robbed Steve’s Quick Stop at gunpoint back on July 8th. The suspect is described as a bearded man in his 30s, around 5’8” to 6 feet tall, wearing dark clothes, light shoes, and a light do-rag. He was armed and demanded cash while other shoppers were unaware. Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for tips leading to an arrest. All tips are anonymous.

In Walker County, several local food establishments earned top marks in recent health inspections. Geo’s Smokehouse in LaFayette scored a 99, while Jack’s Family Restaurant in Chickamauga came in with a 95. Los Guerrero’s, also in LaFayette, earned a perfect 100, and Walker County State Prison received a 98.
Georgia’s archery deer hunting season opens this Saturday, September 13th, according to the state’s Wildlife Resources Division. Last year, 86,000 hunters harvested 40,000 deer — and archery gear is allowed statewide for the entire 2025–2026 season. Hunters are urged to stay safe, especially in tree stands — the leading cause of hunting-related injuries. Last season, 12 of 23 incidents involved tree stands, including one fatality. Know before you go — and hunt safely.
High School football is back in action tonight, except for the LaFayette Ramblers. The Ramblers take this tonight night off. They return to the field next Friday with a road trip to Trion. Tonight’s schedule in north Georgia includes Ridgeland hosting Coosa, Ringgold is at Rockmart, Trion visits Model, LFO is at home against North Murray, Heritage hosts Gordon Lee, Chattooga faces Mt Zion Carroll on the road and Calhoun is at Cartersville.
