The USDA Wildlife Services has begun dropping oral rabies vaccine baits in Walker County.  The effort runs through next Tuesday and targets wild animals—mainly raccoons—to help stop the spread of rabies.  Last year’s bait drop was delayed due to Hurricane Helene recovery efforts, so an extra drop took place this past April.  The baits aren’t harmful to people or pets, but officials ask that you avoid handling them.  For more information, contact your local health department.
The Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office continues searching for a man caught on camera pointing a gun at someone in a Ringgold gas station parking lot.  It happened Thursday night off Alabama Highway. Deputies say a middle-aged man went inside, made a purchase, then returned to his car—where security footage shows him aiming a gun at another person.  The reason for the confrontation remains unclear.  Anyone with information should call Detective Lance Lopez at 706-935-2424.
Officials are investigating the death of a Summerville woman who was found buried in trash at the Chattooga County transfer station.  Family members of Kimberly Lindsey reported her missing Friday after they couldn’t reach her. Later that day, they found the vehicle she had been driving parked behind the Family Dollar on Commerce Street—near the dumpsters.  According to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office and Summerville Police, Lindsey was known to search through dumpsters for items she liked to collect. In fact, just the day before, her boyfriend told police he had to help her out of a dumpster at another location. He also mentioned she may have been under the influence of prescription medication.  By the time officials arrived, the dumpsters at the store had already been emptied and taken to the county transfer station. Crews used heavy equipment to sift through the trash, then searched by hand—eventually locating Lindsey’s body.  The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy.  Sheriff Mark Schrader is asking for prayers for Lindsey’s family and says the quick response helped give them closure that may have otherwise been lost.
We now know the name of the woman killed in Sunday night’s crash on Taylor’s Ridge.  The Chattooga County Coroner has identified the victim as 50-year-old Sarah Ryan of Trion. The crash happened around 8:07 p.m. on Highway 27 on the north side of Taylor’s Ridge and involved three vehicles, including a motorcycle.  Coroner Jeremy McElhaney responded to the scene and pronounced Ryan, who was operating the motorcycle, dead at the scene. One other person was injured and taken to a local hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.  The Georgia State Patrol is leading the investigation into what caused the crash.  All lanes of Highway 27 were temporarily shut down Sunday night as emergency crews responded. More details are expected as the investigation continues.
