With daylight saving time ending and nights falling earlier, drivers are being urged to stay alert—not just for darker roads, but for deer. We’re now in rut season, when bucks become more active—and more distracted—as they search for mates. This means a higher risk of deer collisions, especially in rural and wooded areas. To stay safe: Slow down, watch for glowing eyes at the roadside, and remember—if you see one deer, more are likely close behind. Be extra alert at dawn and dusk, and don’t swerve—brake firmly and stay in your lane.
