Coroner Jeremy McElhaney says he was called to Atrium Floyd Chattooga ER around 4:54 Saturday afternoon for the death investigation of 48-year-old inmate James Cannon. Officials say Cannon was found unresponsive and not breathing inside his cell. Prison staff began CPR, and EMS transported him to Atrium Floyd Chattooga, where he was later pronounced dead. Special agents from the Department of Corrections responded to both the emergency room and the prison. Authorities say foul play involving Cannon’s cellmate is a possibility.
