          School is back in session after the Christmas break today for Walker and Catoosa County Schools.  Chickamauga City Schools and Chattooga County returns tomorrow.  Dade County also goes back tomorrow.
           The Walker County Board of Commissioners will meet Thursday at six p.m.  The meeting will take place at the Courthouse Annex IV at 201 South Duke Street.  Commissioners are expected to approve minutes, hear financial, committee, and department reports, and receive a presentation on the FlashVote community survey.  Several resolutions are on the agenda, including reappointments to county boards, an extension of the ambulance service contract with CHI Memorial EMS, and the election of a vice chair.  Commissioners will also consider contracts and purchases for the Hinkle Fire Station and Walker County Fire Rescue.
            The Chickamauga City Council has postponed a special meeting originally set for Thursday.  The meeting has been rescheduled for Monday, January twelfth, at six p.m. and will focus on public input for the city’s application for an EPA Brownfields Cleanup Grant.  The grant would help fund cleanup of the former Crystal Springs Print Works site.  The meeting will be held at eighteen-seventeen Lee Clarkson Road in Chickamauga, and the public is encouraged to attend.
          The Georgia Department of Public Safety has released its New Year’s holiday travel report, showing seven people were killed statewide.  Troopers issued more than four hundred seatbelt citations — the highest enforcement category — along with three-hundred-forty-six DUI arrests and three-hundred-forty-four citations for distracted driving.  DPS investigated nearly three hundred crashes, with one-hundred-forty-four injuries reported. Forty-one crashes involved impaired drivers.
