Walker County is starting a required five-year update of its Joint Comprehensive Plan. The update follows rules set by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. An initial public hearing is set for Thursday, February nineteenth. It begins at six p.m. at the Walker County Civic Center in Rock Spring. Officials say the meeting will explain the process and how the public can take part.

Cigna has removed CommonSpirit Health, formerly known as CHI Memorial, from its commercial insurance networks in Tennessee and Georgia. The change took effect February first. CommonSpirit Health officials say talks with Cigna are ongoing, with the goal of restoring in-network access for patients as soon as possible. Shawn Harris, a Democrat running for Georgia’s 14th Congressional District, will host a town hall meeting in Catoosa County this week. The event takes place tonight, at the Ringgold Depot. Doors open at five-thirty, with the town hall beginning at six o’clock. Harris is a Northwest Georgia cattleman and a retired U.S. Army brigadier general. He previously challenged Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene in twenty-twenty-four and is running again for the seat this year. A campaign Day of Action is scheduled for Saturday.
Georgia State School Superintendent Richard Woods is announcing an expansion of fine arts instruction in public schools. The Georgia Department of Education plans to add new fine arts pathways for high school students and push for more fine arts teachers at the elementary level. The department is also working to include AP, IB, and Cambridge fine arts courses for HOPE Rigor credit. Woods says the arts help students build confidence, discipline, and a stronger connection to learning. State officials say the effort supports a more well-rounded education for Georgia students.
High School Basketball last night, Northwest Whitfield took two from LaFayette. In girls action the Lady Ramblers fell 42-35. LaFayette is now 16-8 overall, 2-8 in region play. In the boys game, Northwest took down LaFayette 51-42. The Ramblers are now 14-8 overall, 5-5 in the region.
