A call to Walker County Animal Control about aggressive dogs has led to serious animal cruelty charges against two Rossville residents.  Walker County Animal Control responded to a report from a realtor on Ridgeland Road who says he was aggressively charged by multiple dogs while showing a property. That call resulted in aggravated animal cruelty charges for 43-year-old Tabitha Henley, who was arrested, and a warrant issued for her boyfriend, Richard Nealon.  The realtor told officials the dogs were barking, growling, and charging at him from a nearby property. When Animal Control Officer Tyler Bishop arrived at the scene, he noticed one dog struggling to walk.  Henley admitted the dog had been hit by a vehicle some time ago but had not taken it to a veterinarian—a violation of Georgia law. The injured dog was surrendered and taken for medical evaluation, where a vet found a broken leg that had likely gone untreated for months. Due to the severity of the injury and ongoing pain, amputation was recommended.  If convicted, Henley and Nealon could each face up to five years in prison, a $15,000 fine, or both.
Walker County Chairwoman Angie Teems is starting a series of five town hall meetings tonight, aiming to engage local residents in open and honest conversations about the issues that matter most to the community.  The first meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Cedar Grove Community Center in Chickamauga.  Under the theme “Common Sense Is Our Common Ground,” these meetings are designed as open forums where residents can share their concerns and ideas without a set agenda.  Residents across Walker County are encouraged to attend and participate as the chairwoman continues the series at various locations throughout the coming weeks.
