Road resurfacing is underway in Walker County as part of the 2025–2026 paving schedule. Crews began work earlier this month on Lookout Mountain, with roads like Yankee Road, Old State Road, and Ridge Road already seeing improvements. This week, the project shifts to the Chattanooga Valley area. Officials say the effort is part of the county’s push to improve safety and drivability. A full list of roads is available at walkercountyga.gov/tsplost.
Another story of animal cruelty.  A Rossville man is facing an animal cruelty charge after a dog was found tied to a tree outside the East Ridge Animal Shelter. Authorities say the dog, named Townes, was left without food or water for about seven hours. Investigators traced the dog back to a rehab patient who had rehomed it. The dog eventually ended up with 36-year-old Bryan Gardenhire, who police say was the last to have the animal before abandoning it. Townes is now being cared for by East Ridge Animal Services.
