If you’re looking for fresh, local produce head over to the 27 Farmer’s Market at the Walker County Civic Center today. The market will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering everything from okra and potatoes to beans, corn, tomatoes, honey, and more.  And while you’re there, consider giving back—Blood Assurance will be on site hosting a blood drive for eligible donors.
Starting Tuesday, August 5, 10-digit dialing will be mandatory for all local calls in the Chattanooga area and across the 423 area code. That means you’ll need to dial the area code plus the 7-digit number—even for local calls.  The change is part of Tennessee’s rollout of the new 729 area code, which will overlay the existing 423 region due to a shortage of available numbers. Existing numbers won’t change, but new ones may carry the 729 code starting September 5.  Make sure to update your contact lists, alarm systems, and any devices that still use 7-digit dialing.
As students head back to class, AAA is reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert near schools and bus stops.  The annual “School’s Open – Drive Carefully” campaign, launched in partnership with the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, aims to prevent child pedestrian crashes during the busy back-to-school season.  A recent AAA survey shows nearly 70% of Georgia drivers travel through school zones in the fall. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, avoid distractions, and watch for kids walking or biking to school.
