No charges will be filed against the parents of a two-year-old boy who was shot on Christmas Day in Rock Spring. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Wednesday that its review of the case is complete and the shooting was accidental. Authorities say there was no criminal wrongdoing and the case is now closed. The shooting happened just before 10 a.m. at a home on Tarvin Road in Walker County. The child was taken to a Chattanooga hospital, where he remained as of Wednesday. Investigators say the child’s father had left a gun on a nightstand after returning home late Christmas Eve.
Several new Georgia laws are now in effect, bringing changes for consumers, courts, elections, and insurance. One new law regulates litigation financing, where third-party companies pay legal costs, adding new consumer protection requirements. Another law automatically transfers HVAC manufacturer warranties to new homeowners and bans mandatory product registration, starting with systems sold in 2026. Court operations are also changing, with some hearings now allowed to be digitally recorded instead of using a court reporter. Election updates include new rules for political action committees, additional training requirements for local candidates, and limits on when the Ethics Commission can launch investigations. Home addresses will also be removed from public records. Other new laws give homeowners more notice before insurance non-renewals, expand teledentistry, update waste facility rules, and shift oversight of mental health and drug treatment programs. State officials say the changes are aimed at modernization and improved consumer protections.
Just a reminder to parents and students. School is back in session on Tuesday of next week.
