Five felony arrest Wednesday in Walker County. Among those charged, 32-year-old Kristalyn Michell Stout was booked on charges of being a fugitive and giving a false name. Jeffery Lee Jones, 36-years-old was charged with theft. William Harrison Kinard, 38-was arrested on charges of terroristic threats or acts against a school. The Walker County Animal Shelter is in the final stretch of its “Empty the Shelters” event — happening today and tomorrow from 10 to 4. Adoption fees are waived for animals four months and older, and it’s just 25 dollars for younger pets. Shelter staff say ten animals have already found their forever homes in the first three days, but many more dogs and cats are still waiting for a little holiday hope and a family to call their own. Summerville is among seven Georgia cities set to receive a major economic boost as it becomes a newly designated Rural Zone on January 1st. The Rural Zone program, created by the Department of Community Affairs and the Department of Economic Development, offers tax incentives aimed at revitalizing historic downtown areas. Businesses in Summerville can qualify for job tax credits, investment credits, and rehabilitation credits—including $2,000 per new full-time job and substantial credits for property purchases and building improvements. The designation runs through 2030, giving Summerville new tools to attract investment and support local growth.
