Today is Martin Luther King Jr Day. City and County offices will be closed today. That includes the Walker County Animal Shelter. There’s no school today. Today’s garbage service will be picked up tomorrow along with the regular Tuesday trash pick up. Everyone returns to work and school tomorrow.
Nobody was injured after a car caught fire on I-75 Southbound Saturday night, The fire happened near the Ringgold exit. Only one car was involved in the blaze. Firefighters were on the scene by 11:30 Saturday night. Cause of the fire is unknown. Catoosa County spokesperson John Pless says there was no crash.
The Walker County Board of Education will meet Tuesday night. The regular session is set for six p.m. at the Walker County Department of Education Building on North Cherokee Street. Board members will recognize the LaFayette Middle School Ramble Radio Club during special recognitions. The agenda also includes the superintendent’s report and a facilities update. Action items include approval of the financial report and the district’s local facilities plan. Several consent agenda items are scheduled, including approval of recent meeting minutes, a partnership agreement with Valdosta State University, and service agreements for language line and medical provider services. The board will also consider contracts for HVAC and lighting renovations at Gordon Lee Elementary and Ridgeland High School, funded through ESPLOST. Public participation is scheduled before a possible executive session and personnel recommendations. The meeting is open to the public.
The LaFayette Ramblers split Friday nights match up with county rival Ridgeland. In girls action, Ridgeland rallied holding LaFayette to just one point in the second quarter on their way to a 42-29 for the Panthers. In the boys game, LaFayette rolled to the tune of 67-33. The Ramblers travel to Calhoun tomorrow night to face the Yellowjackets.
