A Chickamauga man has been sentenced to decades in prison for violent attacks committed while he was incarcerated in the Catoosa County Jail. Forty-seven-year-old Jeffrey Wade Anthony was found guilty of Unlawful Acts of Violence in a Penal Institution following a bench trial, according to the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors say Anthony assaulted another inmate in February of 2023 while jailed on a probation violation. While awaiting trial for that incident, Anthony was caught on surveillance video attacking a second inmate in April of 2025. Anthony was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with the first 15 years to be served without the possibility of parole.
The Fort Oglethorpe Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a person of interest in a recent theft investigation. Police say the individual, shown in photos released by investigators, is believed to be connected to a theft at a local business. Specific details about the incident have not been released. Voters in northwest Georgia will get an early look at the race for Georgia’s open 14th Congressional District seat this weekend. The Polk County Republican Party will host a Republican candidate forum Saturday at First Baptist Church of Rockmart. Doors open at 10 a.m., with the forum beginning at 10:30. The moderated event will feature voter-submitted questions and a straw poll, giving attendees a chance to hear directly from candidates seeking the GOP nomination. Several candidates have confirmed plans to attend, including Colton Moore, Jim Tully, Clayton Fuller, Marty Brown, Star Black, Christian Hurd, Eric Cunningham, and Nicolas Lama. The seat became vacant earlier this year following the departure of Marjorie Taylor Greene.
LaFayette High School Boys Basketball pick up a big road win at Gilmer last night. The Boys won 73-42. The leading scorer was Bryson Penson with 22, Gilmer’s girls topped LaFayette 67-28.
Ridgeland’s Girls edged Northwest Whitfield 54-46. In boys action Northewest Whitfield topped Ridgeland 59-45.
Chattooga County boys beat Gordon Lee 63-61. Gordon Lee’s girls took the win 47-43.
