          Early voting for the March 10th special election got underway yesterday in Walker County.  Day one saw 197 voters cast their ballot.  You can vote this week at the Walker County Election Office.  It’s located at 311 South Main Street in LaFayette, that’s the site of the old Family Dollar.  You can vote today through Saturday from 9am-5pm.  Early voting continues through March 6th.  Election day is March 10th.  All 11 Walker County precincts will be open that day from 7am to 7pm.  On election day, you’ll have to cast your ballot as your assigned precinct.
          The City of LaFayette is asking residents to help improve roadway safety by sharing their input on a new Safety Action Plan.  The plan is being developed through the U.S. Department of Transportation Safe Streets and Roads for All program, which supports efforts to reduce serious crashes and make roads safer for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.  Residents can complete an online survey and mark problem areas on an interactive map.  City leaders say public feedback is critical to securing future federal funding.  You can participate now at safestreetslafayette dot com.
          Many Georgia taxpayers could see a major tax break under a bill now headed to the House.  Senate Bill 476 passed the Georgia State Senate on a 32 to 18 vote. It would eliminate state income taxes for individuals earning under 50-thousand dollars and families under 100-thousand.  The measure would also lower the tax rate to 4-point-99 percent.  If approved by the Georgia House of Representatives and signed by the governor, the changes would take effect in 2026.
          The Region 7-3A Basketball Tournament last night.  In girls action, Ridgeland defeated LaFayette 53-38.  The Lady Panthers advance to face Gilmer in Calhoun on Wednesday.  Tonight at Northwest Whitfield, it’s boys basketball action as LaFayette faces Gilmer.  Tip off is set for 6pm.  We’ll have it for you here on Georgia 93-7.
