Road resurfacing is underway this week in the Fairview and Rossville areas, with more than 11 miles of roads included in the latest phase of the county’s improvement plan. The work is part of a larger project covering more than 70 miles total. Drivers should expect delays on several roads, including North Jenkins, Ivy Street, Glasscock Road, McFarland Avenue and Salem Road. Officials are urging motorists to slow down, use caution in work zones, and allow extra time while crews complete the resurfacing.
State Representative Mike Cameron of Rossville has been named vice chairman of a key consumer affairs subcommittee in the Georgia House of Representatives. Committee Chairman Robert Dickey made the appointment, with Brent Cox serving as subcommittee chairman. Cameron says he looks forward to addressing issues affecting Georgia consumers and agriculture. Cameron represents Dade County and part of Walker County, and was first elected in 2020.
President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Rome tomorrow, according to the White House. Trump is expected to speak on the economy and affordability, and visit a local business. During the trip, Trump is also focusing on the special election for Georgia’s 14th District. He has endorsed former District Attorney Clay Fuller to replace former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. Early voting in the special election is already underway. March 10th is election day.
Region Basketball Tournament action last night. In the boys bracket, LaFayette advances with a 60-35 win over Gilmer County. The win was the Ramblers third of the season over Gilmer. The win also clinched a spot in next weeks state tournament. LaFayette will play Calhoun tonight in the semi-final round of the tournament. Tip off is set for 8:30. LaFayette baseball suffered their first loss of the season last night. LFO beat the Ramblers 4-0. LaFayette is now 4-1 to start the season.
