Walker County Animal Control is asking for the public’s help after a dog was abandoned over the weekend in Rossville. Surveillance video captured the incident, which happened around 11-thirty Saturday morning on Bailey Lane, off Mission Ridge Road. Officials say the dog was left by the driver of an orange Dodge Charger, possibly a sixth-generation model from 2006 to 2010, with distinctive white racing stripes. Images of the vehicle have been shared on social media, and anyone who recognizes the car or has information is asked to contact Walker County Animal Control. Tips can be submitted anonymously. Authorities say they are working to identify the person responsible and hold them accountable.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Catoosa County involving officers from the East Ridge Police Department. Authorities say no injuries were reported. According to preliminary information, East Ridge officers attempted to stop a stolen SUV around five-thirty Sunday evening. The vehicle fled into Georgia and stopped at a Circle K on Lafayette Road in Rossville. Officers reported seeing multiple occupants and gave commands for them to exit the vehicle, but authorities say the SUV drove away. During the pursuit, one officer fired at the vehicle. The stolen SUV was later recovered at another location in Rossville. The occupants have not yet been identified. The GBI is conducting an independent investigation and will submit its findings to the district attorney’s office.
Just a reminder for parents and students. Friday is an early dismissal for Walker County Schools. Elementary Schools will dismiss at 11:30. Student drivers will be able to leave at 12. Middle and High School Students will be dismissed at 12:30 to get that early start on the holiday break.
Ridgeland High School has announced the hiring of Shane Cauthorn as the new head football coach for the Panthers. Cauthorn brings coaching experience from several area programs, including assistant coaching stops at Dade County, LaFayette, and Gordon Lee. He most recently coached at Saddle Ridge Middle School.
