The White House has released the schedule for President Donald Trump’s visit to Rome today. Trump will arrive at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport before visiting a local business, recording a podcast, and touring Coosa Steel Corporation, where he’ll deliver economic remarks. The visit comes as early voting continues to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene in Georgia’s 14th District. The special election is March tenth.
A new trail connecting downtown Chickamauga to the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is nearing completion. The 2-point-2 mile Battlefield Connector Trail will provide a safe route for walkers and cyclists. Walker County Government says Osburn Road has reopened, and most construction is finished, but safety features like crosswalks and handrails still need to be installed. The project is funded by a 434-thousand dollar grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission.
A repeat offender has been sentenced to federal prison for robbing a Burger King in Fort Oglethorpe and forcing employees into a freezer. Mario Merriweather received 11 years in prison from William M. Ray II after pleading guilty to robbery. Prosecutors say Merriweather used what appeared to be a pistol before fleeing and collapsing nearby. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Officials say Merriweather has a criminal history spanning three decades.
Residents in parts of Trion will be without water Friday morning due to a repair. Trion officials say service will be shut off at 9:30 Friday morning from the Chattooga River south to Moore Street. Water will remain off until repairs are complete. Residents in the affected area are urged to plan ahead until service is restored.
The LaFayette Ramblers fell to the Calhoun Yellow Jackets 54 to 47 in the Region 7 Triple-A semi-finals. In the other game, the Heritage Generals beat the Northwest Whitfield Bruins 68 to 59.
