         LaFayette City offices will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, December 24th and 25th, for the Christmas holiday.  Due to the closure, residential garbage pickup will change. Monday and Tuesday routes will be collected Monday, December 22nd, while Wednesday and Thursday routes will be picked up Tuesday, December 23rd.
         Walker County Schools has announced the 2025–2026 Teachers of the Year.  Each honoree was selected by their school for outstanding dedication, compassion, and impact in the classroom.  You can find the complete list of this years top educators on our website at DiscoverWalker.com.
         Four felony arrests Tuesday in Walker County.  Among those arrested.  60-year-old Russell Lynn Dell was booked on charges of terroristic threats and simple battery.  Two others were booked on probation violation charges.  48-year-old Marcus Lawrence Broom and 51-year-old Stacy Dewayne Poag.  The complete arrest report is posted online at DiscoverWalker.com.
        As Christmas and New Year’s approach, the Georgia Department of Transportation is taking steps to ease holiday travel.  Georgia DOT will temporarily suspend lane closures on interstates, major state routes, and roads near shopping and retail areas. The suspension runs from Tuesday, December 23rd at 6 a.m. through Sunday, December 28th at 10 p.m., and again from Wednesday, December 31st at 5 a.m. through Friday, January 2nd at 5 a.m.  Drivers are reminded that construction crews may still be working near highways, some long-term closures could remain, and emergency closures may occur.  Motorists are urged to stay alert, follow posted signs, and use caution in work zones.
