Today is Good Friday. That means that Walker County Government Offices will be closed today. The county landfill and the Animal Shelter will be closed today and tomorrow.
Summerville and Ringgold are among Georgia communities receiving funding to address PFAS in drinking water systems. The Georgia Environmental Finance Authority awarded Summerville 4.5 million dollars to upgrade its drinking water plant and install PFAS remediation technology, while Ringgold received 2.58 million dollars for a pilot study, new well construction, and treatment improvements. Dalton Utilities and Chatsworth Water Works also received funding. In total, more than 32 million dollars was awarded statewide through federal infrastructure and safe drinking water programs.
Patients across the Chattanooga region now have clarity after a contract dispute between CommonSpirit Health and Cigna. Officials say CommonSpirit facilities in Tennessee and Georgia have reached a new agreement with Cigna, restoring in-network access for many patients. The deal covers Memorial Hospitals, CommonSpirit Medical Group, and The Chattanooga Heart Institute, and applies to certain employer-sponsored plans. The agreement is retroactive to February first, meaning coverage will be treated as continuous. CommonSpirit says patients can continue seeing their doctors and using the same facilities without interruption.
Walker County celebrated the grand opening of new pickleball courts in Rock Spring yesterday. Officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Walker Rocks Park, located on the Walker County Civic Center campus on Highway 27. The new courts are part of ongoing improvements to the park. In August of 2024, Walker County received a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant from the National Park Service to support phase three of the Walker Rocks Park project. Phase three included the pickleball courts.
