The cold weather is back this morning. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Cold Weather Advisory until 10 am today. Officials say the combination of cold temperatures and gusty winds can be hazardous for anyone spending extended time outdoors. Residents are urged to bundle up in layers, wear hats and gloves, check on elderly neighbors and protect your pets. Conditions are expected to improve later today as winds calm and temperatures rise. The Walker County School System has approved its academic calendar for the 20-26–27 school year. The first day of class will be August 5th. Fall Break is set to start October 12th, with Thanksgiving Break starting November 23rd. Holiday Break will run December 21st through January 5th, and Spring Break begins for March 29th through April 2nd. Graduation for the Class of 20-27 will be held Friday, May 21st. One person is dead and another injured following a head-on crash Friday morning on U.S. 27 near Saddle Ridge School. The Georgia State Patrol says a Lexus crossed the center line and hit a Jeep Wrangler head-on around 6:39 a.m. The Lexus driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Jeep driver was taken to Erlanger for treatment. Their condition has not been released. The crash remains under investigation, and no names have been announced.
Water Customer for the City of Summerville may have low water pressure today. The city is doing maintenance work at the water treatment plant. Summerville officials say the work will be completed later today.
The LaFayette High School boys and girls basketball teams are headed to the state tournament this week. The Lady Ramblers will play Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Cherokee Bluff High School. The Rambler boys will play Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Long County High School. Tickets for both games will be available online through GoFan.
